At a packed community meeting in Oughterard last night, TD Noel Grearish told the room that economic migrants are abusing the asylum system to move to Ireland and “sponge off the state”. Meanwhile he complained that Irish people are often on the housing list for seven to ten years. He also told the room that he didn’t believe any persecuted Christians that would be coming to Oughterard. He said a big city could absorb 300 asylum seekers but Oughterard didn’t have the infrastructure.
He asked the community to work together and he would help ensure any asylum plans for the town do not go ahead.
According to Eurostat in 2016, only 10% of asylum requests in Ireland are recognised as genuine but in 2017 an ESRI study revealed that 80% of deportation orders against failed asylum seekers are never implemented

Up to 700 people attended a public meeting in Oughterard, Galway where there was near unanimous opposition to any plans to accommodate asylum seekers at the Connemara Gateway Hotel. The govt has refused to confirm whether asylum seekers will be housed in the town but Cllr Tom Welby told The Niall Boylan Show last Friday that he believes the hotel is being renovated for this purpose.

Locals in Oughterard, Galway, tonight rejected any plans to accommodate asylum seekers at the Connemara Gateway Hotel. A packed community meeting was held in the Community Centre where a hand vote was taken. A majority of the townspeople clearly opposed any asylum plans for their town.
Gearóid Murphy who took this video has said on twitter that locals have been telling him that this was the biggest community gathering they’ve ever seen.
So far the government has refused to confirm or deny whether the Gateway hotel will be used to accommodate asylum seekers but Cllr Tom Welby told Niall Boylan last Friday that he believed this was the case.

There has been a 550% increase in cases of suspected passport fraud in the past two years. 78 cases were investigated in 2016 but that rose to 504 last year. 237 cases have been forwarded to gardaí since 2016.
In January 2017, the BBC reported that thousands of non-EU nationals are paying tens of thousands of pounds for fake Irish documents to sneak into the UK.
The scandal was revealed in BBC’s Breaking into Britain on Radio 4.
Police say the scam was used by UK nationals who were trying to get their relatives into Britain from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
People are paying up to £25,000 for the fake documents, according to the police.
Det Supt Stephen Courage from the Garda National Immigration Bureau told the BBC:

The Liberal. ie has posted footage of an attack against gardaí carried out in Dorgheda outside a pub where an 18th birthday party had been booked. Gardaí were attacked when they arrived at the event and one garda can been seen being kicked in the head multiple times.

The Niall Prenderville Show on Red Fm heard from callers over Riverside park hotel in Macroom being turned into emergency accommodation for asylum seekers without any consultation from the locals.
Mick Mulcahy heard that the hotel had fallen into disrepair but then new owners bought it three weeks ago. They informed employees they were going to close the hotel for three weeks but then a week later a bus arrived outside the hotel “sneaking in” asylum seekers. The staff were shocked as anyone else.
Hotels changing hands or being leased out before abruptly being turned into accommodation for asylum seekers is a common occurrence in Ireland as was the case in Rooskey and Rosslare.

Pádraig called in and told Niall that believed asylum was an industry: “There’s a lot of people making money out of it — like you said — solicitors on the gravy train, these hoteliers are making a fortune out of it, and a lot of these people that are making these decisions, Niall, are living in very affluent areas which are unaffected by mass immigration because remember this, Niall: Open-Border mass immigration is a poor man’s problem.”

The number of new applications from those alleging persecution is now set for a 15-year high, as the Direct Provision (DP) asylum accommodation system in Ireland bursts at the seams with over 6,000 migrants. Shockingly, more than 80% of these DP resident are failed or fake claimants, which Ireland refuses to deport, even though this would make more than sufficient room and resources for legitimate claimants! Some failed claimants have lived there for a decade, despite having exhausted all their appeals!
