Tipp FM hosted a debate this morning over TD Noel Grealish’s remarks about economic migrants abusing the asylum system to move to Ireland and “sponge off the system”. Former Tipperary Senior Hurler Timmy Hammersley disagreed with Grealish’s remarks but caller Thomas felt differently. He said that the key point here was that “there are people presenting as asylum seekers who are clearly economic migrants.”

There was a huge applause at a packed community meeting in Oughterard last Wednesday for Galway TD Noel Grealish over remarks he made about economic migrants abusing the asylum system in order to move to Ireland.
Grealish was speaking at what was described as the biggest political meeting every held in Oughterard in opposition to any plans to accommodate asylum seekers at the Connemara Gateway Hotel. Reports suggest as many as 800 to 1,00 locals showed up at the meeting from a population of around 1,500.
Leaflets were handed out at the meeting informing the community that in 2016, Eurostat revealed that 90% of asylum seekers in Ireland were not considered genuine. However, in 2017, the ESRI revealed that 80% of deportation orders against failed asylum seekers are nev Continue reading…

iTV.ie “The people of Ireland have got to stand up and revolt. Take a week off work, it will be well worth it!”
The Niall Prenderville Show on Red Fm heard from callers over Riverside park hotel in Macroom being turned into emergency accommodation for asylum seekers without any consultation from the locals.
Mick Mulcahy heard that the hotel had fallen into disrepair but then new owners bought it three weeks ago. They informed employees they were going to close the hotel for three weeks but then a week later a bus arrived outside the hotel “sneaking in” asylum seekers. The staff were shocked as anyone else.
Hotels changing hands or being leased out before abruptly being turned into accommodation for asylum seekers is a common occurrence in Ireland as was the case in Rooskey and Rosslare. Continue reading…

The Schengen agreement and the current migrant-sharing mechanism are deeply flawed and need urgent fixing, French President Emmanuel Macron has said. Europe must “have borders” even if it means a smaller Schengen zone, he said.
In the first major press conference since the Yellow Vest movement took off in November, Macron unveiled a range of policy measures to placate the protesters, including a proposed overhaul of the European-wide migration policy and the Schengen agreement.
The embattled French leader argued that the agreement that guarantees free movement across the Schengen area, while “wonderful,” does not work anymore.
The same, he said, applies to the Dublin Regulation that determines which EU member-state is responsible for accepting asylum seekers. Under the current version of the agreement, which came into force in 2013 and applies to all EU member-states except Denmark, the main criteria for determining responsibility is the first point of entry.
