The Schengen agreement and the current migrant-sharing mechanism are deeply flawed and need urgent fixing, French President Emmanuel Macron has said. Europe must “have borders” even if it means a smaller Schengen zone, he said.
In the first major press conference since the Yellow Vest movement took off in November, Macron unveiled a range of policy measures to placate the protesters, including a proposed overhaul of the European-wide migration policy and the Schengen agreement.
The embattled French leader argued that the agreement that guarantees free movement across the Schengen area, while “wonderful,” does not work anymore.
The same, he said, applies to the Dublin Regulation that determines which EU member-state is responsible for accepting asylum seekers. Under the current version of the agreement, which came into force in 2013 and applies to all EU member-states except Denmark, the main criteria for determining responsibility is the first point of entry.

This week Hollywood Developments started work at Balseskin Refugee Reception Centre in Finglas, North Dublin, to double the capacity of asylum seekers from 350 to 700 residents, as Ireland flings opens its doors to all comers from Africa and Asia. The centre is a fully catered reception facility where all meals etc. are provided and all the needs of so called refugees are taken care of. Water cannon, firecrackers as thousands rally against UN Migration Pact in Brussels – PM Charles Michel Resigns!

Police have deployed water cannon during a rally against the controversial UN migration pact in Brussels. Officers were seen scuffling with protesters, who threw firecrackers before facing off with law-enforcement.
The rally was dubbed the ‘March against Marrakech’ in reference to the city where the pact was signed earlier in December. It was organized by the right-wing Vlaams Belang party which has long been a vocal opponent of the agreement.
While having initially kicked off peacefully, the demonstration started to heat up with some of the participants burning firecrackers and hurling bottles as they marched down the street.
Part of the crowd who rallied on Sunday, also vented their anger by rooting out and throwing around traffic signs and what appeared to be parts of some fences.
